We only have a few short weeks left until our first Wedding Planning and Design Workshop! Today I am featuring Janet Howard Studio, who will be speaking at the workshop on how photographers and wedding planners can work together on the all important wedding day timeline. It’s important  to have plenty of time to ensure that not only the client has great photos, but also that we as planners and designers are able to get the images we need for our portfolio and to be published.

Janet is just one of those people you love to be around. Her calm spirit and intuitive instinct makes her the perfect “fly on the wall” when she’s shooting. She captures emotion effortlessly while infusing an artistic style into her photographs.

I’ve worked with Janet from the beginning of my wedding planning career. So I’m beyond excited to have her speak at the Atlanta Wedding Creative Planning & Design Workshop on February 19th. Michelle and I had a great time last Sunday at the Bridal Extravaganza. We spent an inspiring day meeting brides and helping them with one of the most challenging, but most important parts of the wedding planning process: color palette. We helped each bride put together a color board that they can use as the foundation for all wedding planning and design decisions. There were a few colors that proved to be very popular with brides that we expect to see a lot of in weddings throughout the next year:

Orange

Orange is great for weddings of all seasons. Balance strong punches of bright orange with a neutral like gray for a clean, modern feel.

Blush

Pale pink is becoming as popular as bright pink and fuchsia. Bring in gold and silk for a richly elegant atmosphere.

Purple

Purple has always been a popular color for weddings – this year we expect to see a lot of deep plum purple.

Aqua

Aqua is a great color for weddings with a vintage or antique feel and is great for summer and beach weddings.

Coral

Coral is a great alternative to pink if your groom doesn’t like the idea of a pink wedding – it’s still feminine but not too girly.

This past Monday was my mom’s 60th birthday! If you do the math, that means that my mom was a child of the 50s. If I could live in any decade, without a doubt I would choose the 50s. I don’t know if it’s the full skirted dresses, the costume jewelry, or the quirkiness of it all, but there’s a special place in my heart for the 50s. This week I’ve been perusing the web for 50s inspired weddings just because I can. I’m completely obsessed with all the different ways past brides have made this decade their own. You can go all out 50s or add a hint of 50s flair here or there. There are so many ways to bring the 50s back on your special day:

1. An eye-catching brooch could always be found on the garment of fashionable 50s lady. Use a brooch to finish off the perfect party favors or accessorize your bridesmaids with a brooch that matches their personality.

2. Wrist-length gloves scream 50s for me. Complete your wedding day look with the perfect vintage white gloves.

3. Drive away in 50s style with a vintage car that will take everyone’s breathe away. My dad actually rebuilt one of these from the ground up!!

The 50s may not be your decade. Maybe you’re more into the 20s or the 60s. Whatever your preference there’s always fabulous ways to incorporate your favorite decade into your special day.

The Atlantan Brides Evening of Bridal Luxury was held at the Loews Hotel last October. I designed the reception space for the StudioWed section, and our creative team brought “Urban Glamour” to life. I wanted to keep the design really clean using mostly white, with pops of tangerine and grey. I loved how the design turned out!

Nicole and Lionel’s reception, also held at the Biltmore Ballrooms, was elegant, bold, and most of all fun!

The Savage Garden always does a beautiful job styling their pieces – I love the way this one flows – each bud is specifically placed to make a statement.

We transformed the same ballroom from the ceremony to the reception. I love the bold pink and black and white pattern linen.

We are so excited for our first Planning & Design Workshop with The Atlanta Wedding Creative, scheduled for February 18th and 19th. We have an all star list of speakers to inspire our attendees and I wanted to spotlight a few of them. First up, Tamara Gollob with I Do Linens.

I began working with Tamara in 2009 when she moved to Atlanta from Canada. She was a new vendor in our city trying to introduce the concept of custom linens. Many told her that custom linen wouldn’t work in the Atlanta market and that clients wouldn’t be willing to pay for it. But when I saw the quality of Tamara’s work and the endless possibilities of what she could do with linen, I knew that she was going to be a huge success in Atlanta.

I have had the privilege of working with Tamara on many projects and have never been disappointed.  She has a fashion forward approach to designing and her linen always takes our events to the next level. I come up with crazy ideas and concepts and Tamara every time delivers a product beyond my dreams.

Tamara will be speaking at the Atlanta Wedding Creative  Planning & Design Workshop on linen trends. She is sure to inspire and stretch the imagination of our attending planners to re-consider what they can do with linen at their events. And on top of that, we will get to actually play with her linen as we style tablescape concepts in our interactive photo shoot.

I’m totally into the details. I think each detail is important in telling your love story on your special day. One detail that I think should never get overlooked is your table numbers. Therefore, this week I’m obsessing over these great ideas for displaying table numbers for your guests. Take a look at these creative ideas:

1. Stick a number on a glass bottle (or wine bottle!). Use it solely as a table number or allow your guests to drink up!

2. Show off old pictures by using a year as the table number, then attach pictures from that year.

3. Assign each table a different anniversary year, and let the guests at that table write notes to be opened on the first anniversary, second, third, and so on.

Please, oh, please don’t look over these small details! The smallest details are what really make your wedding fabulous. What are some details you were thinking about overlooking?

Nicole and Lionel were such a delight to work with. Nicole is originally from New Orleans, and Lionel is from Charleston. They met in college at Clemson University. We set out to design a wedding that incorporated pieces of New Orleans, parts of Charleston, and a little bit of glam. Nicole and Lionel were married last May at the Biltmore Ballrooms and today we’re featuring their ceremony.

I think this is one of my favorite getting ready shots – there’s just something about it!

We used the Fleur-de-lis to incorporate New Orleans into the design.
